Five students from Wakefield Community Schools were selected to participate in the prestigious Northeast Community College Quiz Bowl which took place on March 29th. The students were Ryan Anderson (team captain), Jocelyn Weaver, Juan Paredes, Ashlyn Boeckenhauer, and Jeremiah Reimers. The Quiz Bowl was a single-elimination competition between two teams of four players, from the same Class C or Class D high school, enrolled in grades 9-12. 35 schools from the Northeast Nebraska area were represented. A plaque is given to the school winning the competition and medals are awarded to team members. Points were awarded for correct answers to questions taken from all areas of academic knowledge as well as current events. There appeared to be an emphasis on questions related to mathematics, sciences, history, and geography during this year's competition. In the first round, Wakefield competed and lost against Wausa. In the second/consolation round, Wakefield competed and won against Elgin. In the third round, Wakefield competed and lost against Howells-Dodge. It was a spirited contest amongst some of Northeast Nebraska's best and brightest students.
A cold but great start to the track season!
