On Tuesday, October 15th, 39 students from Wakefield Community Schools attended the Northeast Nebraska Career Day for Sophomores at Wayne State College. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Extension once again partnered with Wayne State College, the Northern Nebraska Area Health Education Center, and Northeast Community College to provide Career Day for sophomore students in northeast Nebraska. Sophomore students attended four, 30-minute career sessions in various campus buildings. Students chose to attend four out of the 55 career sessions offered or to attend one of the two health/medical career tracks. Some of the career sessions included coaching, veterinary, law enforcement, photography, agriculture, teaching, musician, and interior design. All the students enjoyed lunch (and ice cream!) at Wayne State College's cafeteria. In the afternoon, all students attended two breakout sessions designed to help them prepare for life after high school. There were twenty three different Breakout Sessions from which to choose. Students left Wayne State College with a better understanding of potential job opportunities, how to set goals and achieve them, the benefits of job shadowing, and more. It was a great experience for all students.
